In honor of Endangered Species Day 2021, the Endangered Species Coalition is holding a nationwide, all-ages chalk art competition that anyone can participate in!
More than 1 million species globally are threatened with extinction. Art is one of the most powerful tools we have to draw attention to this crisis. That’s why we’re holding the Endangered Species Chalk Art Event!
From Friday, May 21st through Sunday, May 23rd, we’re inviting people around the world to create chalk art depicting threatened, endangered, or vanishing species. Not only is this a great way to celebrate wildlife, but you can also win prizes! More than $400 in prize money and chocolate bars will be given away in awards for the best artwork and at random to lucky participants.
This event is open to people of all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels, and you can create your chalk art anywhere that is safe and legal, such as an indoor blackboard, a driveway, sidewalks, or other spaces.
To enter the competition and be eligible to win a prize, all you have to do is post a photo of your chalk art on Instagram between May 21st and May 23rd. If you include #EndangeredSpeciesChalkArt and tag @endangeredspeciescoalition in your post, we’ll include your art in the contest.

Additionally, as a part of the budget engagement process, the Mayor’s Office created an online budget tool called the “Balancing Act” to gather resident feedback on their budget priorities. Click the image below to try it out!

Opportunity Housing Proposal Debate Speaking for the proposal: Mathew Reed, Policy Manager at Silicon Valley@Home Speaking against the proposal: Pierluigi Oliverio, San Jose Planning Commissioner
About the debate: There is a proposal going to San Jose City Council in May which will amend the zoning restrictions on single family housing. This proposal will allow a developer to remove a single family home and erect a duplex, quadplex or hexplex. What are the advantages and disadvantages of doing this?
Google and San Jose on Tuesday released a long-awaited proposed development agreement for a massive, mixed-use office campus that could rise around Diridon Station.
The agreement outlines the campus, called Downtown West, that Google wants to build in the 10th largest city in the country, but also the $200 million community benefits package and about $1 billion in other “features” it’s willing to offer up in exchange for the green light to construct the new campus.
The multinational tech giant aims to build about 6.5 million square feet of offices—though it is studying the impacts of building up to 7.3 million square feet of office space in its proposal.
You may or may not know but it is a project where we are aiming to develop both bicycle and pedestrian improvements along Pruneridge Ave. from Pomeroy to Winchester. It is a planning level document and at this time we have no funding yet for design or construction of the improvements we will identify in the Plan. However, outreach is very important to the City, especially for this project.
Please know there are three ways to stay involved with this project:
Project Email address – You can email us your thoughts related to the project at any time throughout the duration of the project – PruneridgeAvePlan@AltaGo.com
Project Phone Number line – You can leave us a voice message on your thoughts regarding this project at any time throughout the duration of the project – (408) 320-7060
