Successful Cory Neighborhood Dumpster Day

Huge thanks to the Dumpster Day Crew (left to right) – Art Maurice, Krystle Thai, Linda Brennan, Lilly Tamayo, Sarah Brennan, St. John Johnson, and Zachary Johnson. We welcomed 121 neighbors and almost filled all 6 dumpsters! Special thanks to Lilly and Krystle for providing yummy donuts to each car.

And of course, thanks to District 6’s Councilwoman, Dev Davis, for sponsoring this annual event!

Add some Teal to Cory Neighborhood this Halloween

Hey Neighbors! I’m St. John Johnson, a Cory resident, board member, and proud dad of two young kids.

Halloween is coming up in just a few weeks and it puts families like mine in a really tricky situation. My 8yo son has a severe anaphylactic allergy to nuts. This leads to mixed emotions about Halloween. Both excited about dressing up and going door-to-door, but anxious about people putting peanut butter candies into his basket and having to tell people that he can’t take their candy.

He’s not alone. 1 in 13 kids have a food allergy!

Thankfully the people at F.A.R.E. have been working for years on the Teal Pumpkin Project. It’s a simple concept, offer non-candy treats and put a teal pumpkin on your door so parents like me know it’s safe.

Target, CVS, etc offer all sorts of allergy-free trinkets and teal decorations. Some folks, like me, add signs like this to our front-yard.

The extra fun part is being able to be really creative with your goodies. For example, this year we’re giving out kinetic sand, glider airplanes, and fidgets.

So please, as you’re selecting your treats, consider allergy-friendly options and let parents and kids know by putting a teal pumpkin on your doorstep. You can also add your house to the Teal Pumpkin Map, help add some Teal to the Cory Neighborhood.

Thank you all in advance!

I’ll be giving out Teal Pumpkin buckets at the October 28th General Meeting.

Christmas Tree Lane

Just like your local retail stores, it’s already time to start talking about Christmas! The Christmas Tree forms are being included this week in your Cory Neighborhood Flyer.

I’m happy to say that the price is staying the same, $35 a tree, $10 for rebar, and $5 for delivery (inside Cory Neighborhood).

Last year we brought 80 trees to brighten the Cory Neighborhood, let’s see if we can spread more Christmas joy this year!

Attached is the form if you need another copy and there will be extra available at the General Meeting on October 28th. Make sure to get your form in before Thanksgiving as the price raises to $40.

If you have any questions (or would prefer to use digital payments), please feel free to reach out using the “Contact” button on our website.

2024 Rose Garden Homes Tour – October 19-20

Our sister neighborhood has invited all of us to the Rose Garden Homes Tour on October 19th and 20th! It’s an annual event where you can explore some fantastic homes, browse unique shops, and taste wine all while raising money for the students of St. Martin of Tours School.

For more information or to purchase tickets, check out their website at stmartinsj.org/rosegardenhomestour

Dumpster Day – October 19th

Your favorite day of the year is back – Dumpster Day! In just two short weekends we’ll have Kenwood Ave lined with dumpsters waiting for your junk.

The bins will be open from 8am to 11am, but remember to get there early as they tend to fill up fast!

Some items may not be accepted, so please check out our Dumpster Day page for more information.
